UFO's and newFO's

I decided to take a couple of challenges to get some UFO's finished.  My main objective was to get my birds quilt to a completed top.  I didn't get that done but I didn't completely fail in my task though.  It is now partially pieced, but there are 4 corners where I just can't decide what I want to do.  I auditioned pinwheel blocks, but I don't like it.  This will remain on the design wall while I audition different ideas and hopefully it will be completed by the end of April.  It was my March project for a lovely year of finishes-2013.  Unfortunately it will have to be continued this month.  Hopefully I can have a second chance or a "do-over".

I worked on finishing some UFO's for a linky party sponsored by Pigtales and Quilts.  I did finish my goals for this challenge.  I got 5 BOM's and 2 blocks done for a charity quilt.  I had 2 completed quilts that needed a binding and both of those are now bound.  Last, but not least, I finished my pink quilt.  I did a special post on that one because of the horrible problems I had trying to get the mark-b-gone off of one of the fabrics.  I spent so much time fretting over that quilt that I'm sure that is the reason the birds quilt didn't get finished!  This month I not only plan to finish the birds quilt top, but have these goals:
  1. finish 2 flannel baby quilts (UFO)
  2. finish the string quilt (UFO)
  3. and finish 10 customer quilts

2 bound quilts!

These are my newFO blocks.  I have 6 more of them to finish.  I'm a member of a small group of quilters that does charity quilts.  We meet at the Gathering Place and call ourselves "square cuts".  These blocks are leftover BOM's from previous years at this quilt shop.  I'm linking to Cat Patches NewFO challenge where they actually celebrate new projects as well as finished projects!  This is wonderful because I usually just associate guilt feelings with my new projects when I feel I should be finishing the old ones.  I have also linked this post to What a Hoot!  BOM's away.  Please click on some of these links to see all the inspirational projects other quilters are working on!!!

  1. Have you tried just using more flying geese on the corners? I love this happy little bird quilt!
Wish I could meet at The Gathering Place. I am determined to get there again and hopefully this year!

  2. Oh, I like the spinners in the corners! Of course, I can't see the whole effect, so that might change it. Interested to see what you come up with for those. And it's a lot of fun to get together for group community service sewing. I miss that from before our move - I need to find a group and get reconnected that way here!
